Vista Bonita has a vibrant restaurant, the famous Galagala, which operates on a reservation (at least one day in advance) only basis.  This is a real gem with probably the best dining in Inhambane.  Please have a look at photos in the gallery.

It only accepts 12 persons at a time, so book early to avoid disappointment!

For further information and special arrangements please contact  Maretha on +258842923710.

  • Please click here to download the following information in a MS Word format
General Information
  • The resort is between Guinjata and Paindane resorts, 500 km North of Maputo
  • Electricity (Either from grid or generator)
  • Beautiful sea views for all units!
  • Walking distance from Guinjata and Jeff's resort's restaurants and beach bars
  • Please supply your own torches in case of power failure.
  • We recommend battery powered fans in the summer months, as the ceiling fans will not operate after 10h00 in the case of a power failure.
Travel Information

Passports & Visas

  • Passports must be valid for at least 6 months after your return from Mozambique
  • South African passport holders do not need a visa if your stay is less than 30 days
  • All other nationalities need visas

Crossing the border

  • A very helpful guide can be found at : http://www.mcli.co.za/mcli-web/downloads/downloads.htm
  • Please ensure you get 3rd party insurance (can be bought on Moz side, we prefer Hollard or Global Alliance)
  • Locals will offer to help for a fee on Moz side, make sure you agree on a fee beforehand should you choose to make use of them
  • Be careful that you get everything neccesary from them
  • If you do it yourself, please note that the vehicle form on the Mozambique side is in Portuguese and that a local will help you fill it in for a small fee (R20)
  • If you are uncertain, ask an official for help, most of them speak a little bit of English

Duty free allowances

  • Alcohol: 1 litre of spirits and 2,25 litres of wine (please note that good quality Scotch, Brandy etc. is freely available and normally cheaper than in South Africa)
  • Tobacco: 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars
  • Other goods: up to the value of US$50 (or equivalent)
  • Please declare valuables, and make sure you bring the declared items back (they sometimes check)

Driving

  • You must have a valid driver's license (RSA citizens do not require an international driver's license)
  • Original vehicle registration papers or a letter from the bank (also for boats and trailers)
  • Two red emergency triangles
  • A yellow reflective safety vest must be in the vehicle
  • If towing a boat or trailer, blue & yellow triangles must be displayed on the front of the vehicle and on the rear end of the boat / trailer
  • A “ZA” sticker must be displayed on the rear of all RSA registered vehicles and trailers
  • Adhere to speed limits at all times (Spot fines of 3000Mt apply)
  • Driver and front passenger to wear seat belts at all times
  • Roads are generally in a good condition, although it is best to always be on the lookout for potholes (Especially after Xai Xai for about 40km)
  • Driving at night time is not advisable – if unavoidable, take it slowly and watch out for vehicles without lights as well as for pedestrians (immediate imprisonment for hitting a pedestrian)
  • No beach driving is allowed, except in clearly demarcated areas
  • Petrol and diesel is freely available between Maputo and Inhambane, although supply in small villages can be unreliable

Currency

  • The local currency is the Metical (pl. Meticais)
  • Exchange rate: Please check with bureau de change before travelling
  • Money can be exchanged at border posts, banks, markets, some shops and informal traders (beware of trickery with informal traders especially those at border on Moz side who promise better rates, you will get tricked...)
  • SA Rands and US Dollars are widely accepted, although it is normally better to pay in Meticais to prevent biased exchange rate conversions
  • Credit cards are only accepted at some South African owned resorts

Climate

  • Sub-tropical to tropical
  • Rainy season: October – April
  • Very hot and humid from December to February
  • Winters: mild days and cool nights (our favourite time of year in Moz)

Malaria

  • Despite efforts by the Mozambican authorities to eradicate the disease carrying mosquito, malaria is still a very real threat
  • It is highly advisable to make use of prophylaxis – please consult your medical practitioner
  • Always take precautions in the “dusk till dawn” hours – cover exposed skin, make use of insect repellents, sleep under mosquito nets

General

  • You can buy virtually all your supplies in Mozambique. Most towns boast well stocked shops and markets
  • Although fresh fish can be found in abundance, meat is in short supply – rather bring your own
  • In general, it is better not to drink tap water, although fresh drinking water can be found at most coastal resorts
  • Medical facilities are available in most of the larger towns in Mozambique. These facilities are sufficient for minor health or emergency problems
  • It is strongly recommended that you make provision for medical evacuation insurance for serious emergencies
